The Opportunity
We are seeking a dedicated Operational and Compliance Risk Program Lead for our Quality Assurance and Controls team within the Chief Accounting Officer organization (CAO). The team has responsibility for governance and oversight of various enterprise operational and compliance risk programs as they are executed across CAO. This role on the team would ensure consistency in execution of these programs through development of approach and then partnering with contacts in each of the CAO functions. In addition to working across CAO, the role will collaborate with enterprise risk and compliance program owners as well as CFO level business control monitoring teams. Overall the role is a critical part of the first line of defense in risk management and will need to drive and support adherence to the established risk framework and provide ongoing supervision of the risk environment within CAO.
This position is a hybrid work type and will be based in Charlotte, NC. Hybrid roles help employees gain the best of both worlds – collaborating in-person in the office and working from home when needed to achieve focused results.
This position does not have the option of working fully remote.
What You’ll Do
- Identifies and manages existing and emerging risks that stem from business activities and the job role.
- Ensures risks associated with business activities are effectively identified, measured, monitored, and controlled.
- Follows written risk and compliance policies, standards, and procedures for business activities.
- Leads, develops, and motivates the team to provide advanced analytics and insights around key business drivers.
- Anticipates opportunities to tackle the most complex and / or unique business problems, providing proactive financial solutions with holistic and forward-looking perspectives to enable better decision making by senior management.
- Consistently interacts with senior management becoming their trusted advisor on all financial issues.
- Makes recommendations to solve short-term, as well as strategic financial business problems.
- Teaches and mentors others about complex financial processes, business drivers and systems ensuring information sharing and knowledge transfer.
- Reviews analysts work and assists management in assigning tasks and managing workflow.
- Leads initiatives to develop an integrated enterprise planning process from multiple companies and/or staff agency processes and technologies.
- Directs analyses and guides the development, enhancement, and implementation of critical processes, programs, and technologies.
- Anticipates opportunities and potential solutions, leads cross-functional teams through the problem resolution process, and advises senior management on issues.
- Acquires and applies expert knowledge of the business, its products and processes.
- Performs complex and often unique work assignments and problem resolution across multiple systems, functions, or processes.
What You Have
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Accounting, Finance, Economics; OR a related field 4 additional years of related experience (in addition to the minimum years of experience required) may be substituted in lieu of degree.
- 8 years financial/accounting analysis experience to include 2 years leading strategic financial/accounting opportunities. OR Advanced degree in Business, Accounting, Finance, Economics, or a related field, progress towards a CPA or CFA designation, and 6 years of financial / accounting analysis experience to include 1 year leading strategic financial/accounting opportunities.
- Subject-matter-expert knowledge of data analysis and relevant technical accounting/finance acumen required.
- Subject-matter-expert level of business acumen in the areas of the financial services operations, finance/accounting industry practices and emerging trends required.
- Experience communicating complex financial/accounting topics to a variety of audiences.
- Experience using financial/accounting technologies and proposing recommendations for improvements.
- Experience using Microsoft Office Excel for significant financial data analysis and reporting.
- Experience in the application and adherence to financial regulations and compliance.
- Experience producing financial reports and providing recommendations based on data.
- Working knowledge of GAAP.
What Sets You Apart
- Experience in managing issues including identification, root cause, risk assessment, and remediation action plan development
- Experience in implementation or execution of a company-wide like policy/standard at a business unit type level
- Functional knowledge in risk management including Risk Control Self-Assessment programs, and Process/Risk/Control documentation
- Proven history of streamlining processes and documentation
- Expert knowledge of financial service industry environment, emerging risks, laws/rules/regulations

What We Offer
Compensation:
USAA has an effective process for assessing market data and establishing ranges to ensure we remain competitive. You are paid within the salary range based on your experience and market data of the position. The actual salary for this role may vary by location. The salary range for this position is: $111,140 – $199,970
.
Employees may be eligible for pay incentives based on overall corporate and individual performance and at the discretion of the USAA Board of Directors.
