This position serves as a member of the Corporate Communications leadership team and holds responsibility for the overall strategic direction and leadership of all communications related to USAA’s CEO and Board of Directors. Responsible for managing the allocation of resources, both dollars and people, available for the Office of the CEO to USAA’s best advantage. Contributes to Corporate Communications’ mission of influencing the perceptions and behaviors of stakeholders important to USAA including members, employees, the media, industry influencers and community.

The Opportunity

  • Defines a clear and compelling communications vision for the CEO communications for all audiences and sells the vision of the Communications Agenda to align and deploy tactics to help achieve our mission. Includes creating a strong brand platform for the assigned line of business company externally and a robust employee program to drive engagement and innovation.
  • Leads and optimizes a team of communications professionals who counsel the assigned line of business executives and SMEs on key communications approaches and strategies to support prioritized business objectives, USAA’s mission and enterprise goals.
  • Ensures all assigned line of business communications efforts are integrated with enterprise level efforts and experiences.
  • Establishes strong, collaborative relationships with the assigned line of business’s senior leadership team and key partners. Fosters positive relationships between Corporate Communications and the business, and collaborates closely with leadership from Human Resources, Legal, etc., in support of business objectives.
  • Creates strong team unity and an engaged workforce where every employee takes personal responsibility for USAA’s success. Achieves the mission by setting team goals, establishing individual objectives, matching staffing requirements to workload, and ensuring engaged employees through performance management and professional development.
  • Acts as a responsible steward of USAA’s resources by managing the allocated budget and workforce as well as establishing appropriate business metrics and regular monitoring to ensure both effective and efficient operations.
  • Hire, coach and develop team members to create bench strength and succession planning for the team and the function.



Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree; OR 4 years of related experience (in addition to the minimum years of experience required) may be substituted in lieu of degree.
  • 10 or more years corporate communications experience providing communications advice to senior management and leading major communications programs.
  • 6 or more years of people leadership experience in building, managing and/or developing high-performing teams.
  • Experience collaborating with key resources and stakeholders, influencing decisions and managing work to achieve strategic goals.
  • Executive-level business acumen in the areas of business operations, industry practices and emerging trends.
  • Strong writing and verbal skills with the ability to influence and connect the dots
  • A well-rounded professional, with the substance, confidence and presence to work at senior levels throughout the organization.
  • An innovative, creative and strategic thinker.
  • A collaborative team-builder, leader and motivator.



Preferred Experience

  • Knowledge of best practices and experience developing communications content and channel strategies, underpinned with strong business acumen and demonstrated measurement / results.
  • Prior experience supporting a CEO or executive level leaders, inside or outside of USAA, at a Fortune 500 company.
  • Demonstrated ability communicating and presenting at the Board/CEO/Senior leader levels.
  • Effective speechwriting for all stakeholders and forums
  • Experience building relationships and influencing at all levels and managing multiple stakeholders.
  • Proven ability to bring people and teams together on cross-functional deliverables, campaigns and M&As.



Compensation

USAA has an effective process for assessing market data and establishing ranges to ensure we remain competitive. You are paid within the salary range based on your experience and market position. The salary range for this position is: $155,400.00-207,200.00-279,800.00.

Employees may be eligible for pay incentives based on overall corporate and individual performance or at the discretion of the USAA Board of Directors.

Long Term Incentive Plan: Cash payment for Executive level roles only, representing a cash payment which is both time and performance based.
