We are currently seeking a dedicated Manager, Life Claims who will lead the Annuity Claims Team. This leader will manage a team of Life Claims Representatives who are dedicated to knowing our members, understanding their individual needs, and providing appropriate solutions. Develops employees through regular coaching and feedback that leads to improved business results. Executes process improvements and leads organizational process changes. Maintains compliance with policies, procedures, and regulations.
This position is a hybrid work type (3 days a week in office) based in the San Antonio, Texas Campus. Hybrid roles help employees gain the best of both worlds – collaborating in-person in the office and working from home when needed to achieve focused results.
The Opportunity
What You’ll Do
- Oversees settlements within the life, annuity and disability claims processes and is responsible for identifying and reporting fraudulent activities.
- Approves claims within assigned authority limit.
- Interprets contracts and coordinates with Legal to formulate benefit determinations, as well as, communicate settlements to reduce risk of litigation.
- Hires, develops, and supports employees in fulfillment of our Corporate Mission.
- Manages employee performance and facilitates professional development and career progression.
- Ensures employees understand how the tasks they perform support achievement of business objectives.
- Identifies opportunities to improve operational effectiveness and efficiency, provides feedback to stakeholders, and implements solutions.
- Removes obstacles and champions change.
- Achieves optimal productivity through managing workload volumes, staffing and training needs
- Identifies and manages existing and emerging risks that stem from business activities and the job role.
- Ensures risks associated with business activities are effectively identified, measured, monitored, and controlled.
- Follows written risk and compliance policies, standards, and procedures for business activities.
What You Have
- Bachelor’s degree OR 4 years of related experience (in addition to the minimum years of experience required) may be substituted in lieu of degree. (10 years of experience without Bachelor’s degree)
- 6 or more years relevant financial services, life claims and/or life underwriting experience.
- 2 or more years of direct team lead, supervisory or management experience required.
- Advanced knowledge of life, annuity and health products, services and processes and relevant industry regulatory requirements.
- Ability to obtain Texas Group I License and/or FINRA Series 6, 63 and 26 licenses within 90 days of job entry if required
What Sets You Apart
- US military experience through military service or a military spouse/domestic partner
- 2 or more years of experience with Annuity Claims
- Previous experience with HAL (USAA Internal System) OR Accenture Life Insurance & Annuity Platform (ALIP)

USAA has an effective process for assessing market data and establishing ranges to ensure we remain competitive. You are paid within the salary range based on your experience and market data of the position.
The actual salary for this role may vary by location.
The salary range for this position is: $86,520 – $155,710
.
Employees may be eligible for pay incentives based on overall corporate and individual performance and at the discretion of the USAA Board of Directors.
