TITLE: Urban Outfitters Art Director
REPORTS TO: Creative Director
Overview
The Art Director supports the Creative Director Concept and Studio in creating elevated imagery that pushes the brand forward with an overarching focus on PDP imagery. The Senior Art Director is the point person for all PDP e-commerce needs and mentors’ photographers and art directors. This candidate must have strong understanding of UO aesthetic and how that applies to both UO editorial and e-commerce imagery.
Responsibilities
- Manage day-to-day PDP needs with a focus on ensuring clear communication to all teams and freelancers.
- Meet bi-weekly with art director and photo team to discuss workload and workflow. Edit film after each shoot. Make selects on editorial and product display page imagery and mentor AD’s and photographers to do so.
- Meet regularly with cross-functional partners to evaluate models, casting, budget, hair, and makeup stylists. Stay abreast of model trends, successful and failures. Identify fresh talent to stay ahead of industry.
- Partner with retouching team to maintain highest photo standard and streamline workflow.
- Attend weekly meetings to review images with post-production and still life photo teams.
- Liaise with merchandising team to stay abreast of trends, success, and failures.
- Manage weekly shooting schedules with production to ensure imagery can be delivered effectively and on time.
- Lead week ahead meeting to review week ahead plans including any special shoots/projects.
- Manage budget and schedule with the production manager to stay in line with monthly and quarterly budgets.
- Develop new ideas that can more effectively use budget and even outside budget.
Qualifications
- Be able to articulate lighting setups and understand camera needs.
- Ability to create, inspire and execute a broad creative vision.
- Ability to recognize and respond to current design, fashion, and cultural trends.
- Ability to manage and delegate all facets of multiple projects, schedules, and budgets from concept through execution.
- Excellent interpersonal, management and presentation skills with an ability to communicate clearly and concisely.
- Strong attention to detail.
- Multitask on several projects and work with tight schedules from concept through execution.
- 3 plus years managing an e-commerce photo studio with multiple direct reports.
- Extensive knowledge of all digital photo technologies and studio procedures including lighting equipment, photo equipment and post-production processes.
- Must have broad knowledge of Photoshop, Indesign, Capture One and Key Note.
- An intuitive understanding and vision of the UO brand and customer
