UPMC Magee-Womens Hospital is seeking a Full Time Clinical Support Specialist III to support the Womens Imaging Wexford department!



This position will work rotating daylight and Saturday shifts. In this role, you can expect to travel about 50% of the time. Hours and travel requirements are subject to change based on business needs.


Under the general direction of the Manager/Coordinator, this individual performs a broad range of clinical support services with an active customer interface, serving as a team leader and resource individual to ensure efficient provision of services. Duties will also include but are not limited to, greeting, and registering patients, rooming patients, triaging phone lines, scheduling appointments, supporting the staff with administrative tasks, and providing excellent customer service and patient care.

The ideal candidate for this position will have exceptional customer service skills, be able to work independently and be able to multitask in a busy environment. Previous healthcare work experience is preferred, but not a requirement, while strong communication, computer, and phone etiquette skills are vital to this role. Flexibility in schedule is strongly preferred, as well.



Responsibilities


  • Maintain office equipment and inform appropriate personnel of service needs.
  • Interact directly with patients, family members, staff members, and healthcare professionals.
  • Utilize a computer system to enter, retrieve, edit, and print data as required.
  • Answer work area telephones and triage calls as appropriate.
  • Obtain and input pertinent patient demographic and insurance data, as required, for patient registration and billing.
  • Possess knowledge of pre-authorization requirements for imaging procedures.
  • Retrieve or instruct patients to obtain prior images or medical records pertinent for review at the time of testing.
  • Provide general clerical support and serve as a resource individual for imaging support personnel.
  • Possess in-depth knowledge of specific department functions (i.e., Scheduling, mammography screening program, file maintenance, etc.)
  • Maintain and retrieve patient records per hospital/departmental policies governing patient confidentiality.
  • Follow the mandatory reporting procedures for any incident or serious event that did affect or potentially could have affected the clinical care of any patient.
  • Expeditiously compile documentation needed to process patients upon arrival.
  • Prepare departmental reports, forms, and miscellaneous forms as required.
  • Obtain information and schedule examination appointments.
  • Utilize judgment in determining the appropriate level of service based on clinical needs, clarify pre-authorization requirements, and furnish preparatory examination instructions and assistance to patients.
  • Maintain inventory and order supplies as required.



Qualifications


  • High school graduate or GED equivalent.
  • One year of previous experience in the use of computers, patient record maintenance, and/or reception is required.
  • Ability to assume a leadership role in the absence of immediate supervision.
  • In-depth working knowledge of Hospital and Radiology Information Systems.
  • Knowledge of third-party healthcare coverage and billing requirements.
  • Previous experience with scheduling (appointments, meetings, etc.) preferred.
  • Previous medical office and/or healthcare work experience is a plus.
  • Strong computer and phone skills are highly preferred.
